Uninor, a fast growing telecom operator today announced that it has crossed the milestone of 25 million GSM subscribers in India and is now the 8th largest service provider in its total 13 telecom circles.
Uninor currently is present in 13 telecom circles that include around 75% of the Indian population. it has at present installed more than 25, 000 towers and is spreading the network in several other circles.
In December, 2009 Uninor had launched its mobile service in 8 circles. With the launch of other 5 telecom circles in June, 2010 it has succeeded in reaching the present commercial footprint of 13 circles. Thus the 25 million mark was reached within 18 months of the launch of the 1st circle and within 12 months of the launch of other circles.
Uninor has the subscriber base in UP East (40,52,377), UP West (29,96,857), Bihar & Jharkhand (28,11,398) and West Bengal (23,81,818) (till 30 April, 2011) that have served as the strongest circle for it by contributing around 48% of the total subscription base. They are further followed by Andhra Pradesh (23, 42,188), Maharashtra and Goa (21, 97,374) and Gujarat (19, 64,986).
Mr. Sigve Brekke, MD, Uninor while talking about the success stated, “Our long-term ambition is to establish ourselves among the top 6 operators in each of our circles. There is some distance to go till we reach that goal, but we are encouraged by the progress we are making.”
