Makers of the Opera web browsers for mobile phones, Opera Software, launch a co-branded version of Opera Mini for around 32 million users of Grameenphone (Telenor Group) in Bangladesh. The version has strengthened the presence of Opera Software in the Indian subcontinent.
The Opera Mini web browser works on over 3000 different varieties of handsets than vary from basic feature phones to high-end smartphones. It has over 90 million users every month and hence is the most popular web browser in the world.
The Telenor Group is the major shareholder of Grameenphone in Bangladesh and Uninor in India. In August last year they announced a global agreement with Opera Software. The purpose of the agreement was to stimulate quick growth of mobile internet services across Telenor’s business units. Under the agreement Opera and Grameenphone have taken initiatives to further enhance the scope of the mobile web browser in Bangladesh. The co-branded version of Opera Mini web browser is customized to the local market.
