Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has now set up mobile coverage on the complete route of Amarnath Yatra making it possible for all BSNL and MTNL postpaid customers from other states with roaming facility on their phone to stay in touch with their family and friends throughout the yatra. All the BSNL subscribers in J&K will also have almost continuous service on their mobile up to the holy cave.
The service was launched initially in July, 2010 and was inaugurated by Mr. Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology.
Roaming facility for prepaid customers of other states is not available in J&K but roaming facility for postpaid BSNL and MTNL subscribers from any other state will work perfectly.
BSNL has made arrangements at Registration and Base Campus to provide BSNL prepaid mobile connections to the yatris. They must carry valid identity and address proof and passport size photographs with them for it.
The mobile towers at Base Campus of Baltaal, Chandanwadi and Domail had become operative in May itself to help Army, Para Military Forces, SASB and Langar organizers in order to ensure proper arrangements for the yatris.
Both the routes of Pehalgam and Baltaal including Sheshnag, Panchatarini and the Holy Cave now have BSNL mobile network coverage.
