It is the World IPv6 day today. People all around the world can try out the new internet addressing system today which is known as Internet Protocol version 6 or IPv6.
People have been eagerly waiting for IPv6 and it is expected that a number of users will take advantage of the World IPv6 Day test flight celebrated by the Internet Society that will begin today at 8:00 PM.
Companies have already made arrangements to manage the increase in the traffic and to answer the queries of the customers.
Currently, the Internet Protocol version 4 is in use since 1980s. It will be replaced by the latest Internet addressing system Internet Protocol version 6 since the pool of IPv4 addresses has almost been destroyed.
The new IPv6 will expand the current 4 billion possible addresses of IPv4 to around 340 trillion IPv6 addresses.
Users with IPv6 connectivity, today during the 24 hour period, can connect to IPv6-enabled websites. They can also connect to the ISOC test site http://test-ipv6.com/ in order to test the hardware, software and operating systems of their IPv6.
