Airtel And COAI Non Comply With Disclosure of Emission Control Measures

  • Sumo

Airtel and COAI has defaulted in their commitment of disclosing a detailed and sustainable emission reduction plan which includes a significant reduction in the usage of diesel and usage of renewable alternatives to power their network operations by September 2011.

The public commitment was on the basis of a meeting between Bharti Airtel, representatives of COAI and Greenpeace India that took place on June 10th, 2011.

It is worthwhile to mention that that a public campaign where over 70,000 individuals from across the country urged the company by substantially shifting to renewable sources for its energy requirements paved the way for thisĀ  meeting. To honor this commitment, Vodafone Essar and Google have disclosed their carbon emissions and renewable energy goals publicly.

The long-term sustainability and profitability of the telecom industry in India will have an negative impact if more and more companies resort to non disclosure of their emissions and their prevention measures.
