Indian Mobile Subscriber Base Cross 858 Million-Reliance Leads,Tata Loses

The pace of Growth in Indian Mobile telecom sector, (Both in GSM and CDMA) is on a decline according to a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India(TRAI) release yesterday. Though, the total Wireless subscriber base increased from 851.70 million in June 2011 to 858.37 million at the end of July 2011, The rate of growth has declined in comparison with previous months.

The Indian operators could just add only a meager 0.78percentage of customers to their existing base (6.67 million) as per the TRAI reports. However it is worthwhile to note that the number of active wireless customers are 601.73 million on the date of peak VLR in July- 2011 ND he overall wireless Tele density in India touched 71.59.

Tata Teleservices (Tata Indicom/Tata Docomo) and Videocon witnessed a negative growth in terms of customer  acquisition rate with a lost in subscriber accounts amounting to 2.67 million and 95,010 respectively in month of July.

Reliance Communications has gained a clear lead in terms of adding new customers to its subscriber base. The operator successfully added 1.52 million (GSM/CDMA) new users, taking its mobile subscriber base to total of 144.78 million.

 

The other players who added new subscribers included Bharti Airtel added1.51 million new GSM connections, taking its subscriber base to 170.69 million, Vodafone Essar jagged up 1.49 million new subscribers during the month, boosting its  total base to a total of  143.01 million subscribers

 

While IDEA Cellular increased its base by over one million, Aircel also gained 0.60 million users , during July,2011.India’s Premier Telecom operator, The public sector Mammoth, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) added 1.42 million new GSM subscribers taking it total subscriber base to 95.14 million.

Uninor has added 1.05 million GSM subscriber and MTS India added 5,33,682 CDMA subscribers. S Tel and Etisalat DB / Cheers Mobile managed to add 1,83,833 and 66019 GSM subscribers during July,2011.
